Pulling out my dies and playing with scraps

Life has dealt us with many challenges and I’ve been trying to keep myself busy to keep my mind off of them and to keep my sanity in tack, but I am faltering.  Things that I should keep up have been put on the back burner and one of those things is my blog and my commitments.  I am really trying to stay focused and it hasn’t been easy.

I apologize if my posts have been short or seem to just not go anywhere, but I hope you bare with me while my family gets things in order.

I decided to go through my never-ending selection of dies and share this first card with you. The colors made it “merry”, don’t you think?

Card Recipe
Stamp: ODBD Porch
Ink: Versamark
Paper: Stampin’ Up
Accessories: Spellbinders (Classic Circles Large, Petite Scalloped Circles Large, Foliage Frame), black super fine detail embossing powder, white linen ribbon, mini brands, white mini pearls

Then I decided to go through my never-ending pile of scraps to create a card that just focused on the sentiment which I really needed to be reminded of:

Do not be afraid…

When Kelley released this beautiful Blessed Virgin Mary set I was so thrilled!  Being Catholic I knew I would be reaching for this set quite often to make cards and keepsakes for family and friends.

I wanted to create a card that was ethereal so I decided to emboss the Virgin Mary in white.  I also wanted to use designer paper in a different way as well as mimic a sort of “vision” of Mary:

Please stop by again tomorrow for another card using one of the May sets before the June Blog Hop!

A time to reflect…

Our lives are always so jam packed with life’s many happenings. Always remember to take the time to slow down and reflect on what God has blessed us with. For me, He has given rain today to renew and refresh, a quiet day to create a card that helps spread His message, a 10-minute break to enjoy a hot cup of coffee while looking at pictures of my boys on the computer, time to quickly send messages to friends and family to let them know they are being thought of. You see…it’s the little things in life that I consider blessings.

This is why I chose to use Job 37:14 from the Porch set for my card today, following the recipe for ODBDSLC60 (at least two die shapes, dry embossed background and one sentiment):

Ahhhh…comfort!

That’s the feeling I get when I look at the image from the Porch set that Dina Kowal designed for ODBD.

I knew I wanted to create a card that was warm and inviting.  I just didn’t know that it would end up taking me all morning to put it together!  Here’s the end result of my labor of love:

I almost always heat emboss images and sentiments on my cards, but with the rattan chairs it was even more perfect because it added even more texture.  I also popped out different parts of the image using Glue Dots® Pop-Ups.  I used the Vintage Border Background stamp to make my curtains and ran those through a crimper, but after running them through my sewing machine they flattened out a bit. I added Papier Glass Finish to the windows.

To my visitors who are moms…have a blessed Mother’s Day!!

I was very excited when Kelley asked me to design stamps to coordinate with the Spellbinders Ribbons Tag Trio Three!!!  Here is my card using the beautifully drawn Blessed Virgin Mary set and the label from the Mini Tags 3 set:

As a Catholic we honor the Virgin Mary and I wanted to create a card that really made her stand out.  I accented her halo with Platinum Stickles and the rays emitting from her hands with Diamond Stickles.  I hope I did the stamp set justice.

Thanks so much for joining our hop!  Your next stop is at Grace’s Blog…
