Springtime in the summertime

It’s been a strange summer here in Southern California.  We’ve gone through really warm days where you can fry an egg on the driveway to thunderstorms/lightening/rain all in the blink of an eye.  Yesterday was no different, but I enjoyed what God gave us…springtime weather!  The day made me want to make a spring card and McMahon Five Design’s Springtime Friends digital stamp was just the perfect image:

Be sure to swing by M5D to view the newest items and this month’s specials!

It was so nice to be able to give my air conditioning system a nice break (and our wallet, too!).  From what I hear, there will be another change in the weather this weekend with possible rain.  Like I said…strange SoCal summer.

Loving the FTTC76 color inspiration!

I haven’t played along with the challenges over at Flourishes in a long while and so when I stopped by to find out what their current challenge was…well, I fell in love with the colors from the FTTC76!  The colors were so cooling and inviting and clean:

ODBD 169 copy

I buy the large Zva Creative pearly swirls (you know, the ones that are big enough for 12x12 scrapbook pages) and cut them up to fit my 6” square cards.  I get a lot more bang for my buck that way!  I just recently reorganized my designer papers, cardstocks and embellishments.  While doing that I discovered something…I am a HOARDER!  LOL!  Well, deep inside I always knew, but was in denial.  I had so much of everything and so I decided to start using a lot of my stash.  Please be patient with my creations when you start to see many flowers, pearls and buttons on my cards – I need to clear out my supply to make room for MORE!  Shhhh…don’t tell the hubby!

I hope you’ll stop by tomorrow for a little ODBD August Sneak Peek from me and my fellow Breadsticks!!

Happy Friday and thank you for stopping by!

I’ve been having fun lately playing with brownish/cocoa tones and I love how the Stampin’ Up! Sage Shadow color popped from it. I think it really draws the eyes to the center and to the wonderful Matthew 6:11 scripture.

Blossom Baby

When I saw a digital stamp called Blossom Baby from *Wink*Wink Ink I knew I wanted to play with it! I mean, flowers and babies are a perfect combination and if you’ve seen the photography of Anne Geddes she agrees, too.

I played along with the current *Wink*Wink Ink challenge of using Homemade Embellishments on a creation, based it on this week’s Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 78 and Allsorts Baby/Child Challenge 62 . I decided to make my own paper roses:

Wink Wink Ink 007 copy

Wink Wink Ink 006 copy Wink Wink Ink 008 copy

I love how the Blossom Baby image was colored and it lent itself very well to doing a simple paper tole technique. I created and printed out the Carl Sandburg quote using my Photoshop Elements program.

I’ve been a busy little bee and hope to start posting on a more consistent basis! What was keeping me busy? Well, here are a couple of little hints:

Glue Dots 014 Glue Dots 015

I’ll be sharing a project I had a blast creating soon (just waiting for creative clearance from the company) so I hope you stick around for that! I may have another little teaser photo to share a little later…hmmmm….

As always, THANK YOU all for your visits and sweet comments!!

Flower Soft your cottage home!

It’s been a long while since I’ve reached for my Flower Soft and the cottage from Our Daily Bread designs’ Bless This Home set practically screamed at me to use some and so I listened!

A few sprinkles of Flower Soft here and there and I got a nicely accented card using the ICSketches #75 layout:

ODBD 166 copy

ODBD 168 copy

Oh, Flower Soft…forgive me for neglecting you because you added so much to the cottage scene!  Am I being overly dramatic?  Perhaps, but hey!  That stuff added much goodness to my country cottage!  Now I’m thinking I need a few more jars..who’s with me?  LOL!  Off to do some shopping at the ODBD store!

Super cute digital stamps over at *Wink*Wink Ink!

I rarely get a chance to check out what’s new out there in regards to stamps (both rubber and digital) and it’s always a treat when someone points me in the right direction!  Rachael from *Wink*Wink Ink (in charge of DT and Publicity) recently contacted me if I’d be interested in creating a card using digital images created by Melanie Montes de Oca (she’s the artist and owner) and after seeing what they had to offer I said YES!

Here’s my card using the Catnap digital stamp set and this week’s MOJO147 sketch:

Wink Wink Ink 001 copy

Wink Wink Ink 002 copy Wink Wink Ink 003 copy

You read that right…I said digital stamp SET!  Many of the *Wink*Wink Ink digitals have BOTH uncolored and colored versions of the images!  I LOVE that because it saves so much time not having to color and let me tell ya, they are colored wonderfully!  I used the colored version of the Catnap set so you can see why I was excited to work with it!

There are fun challenges to participate in and you can find the *Wink *Wink Ink group at the Crafters Digital Art Center.  If you join CDAC group right now there is a special coupon code for 25% off waiting over there as a "Thank You" for checking out the new group.  But hurry!  The coupon expires on July 15!

Other challenges for this card:

The Crazy Challenge – It’s hip to be square!

Paper Playtime – Bubbles (any way you interpret it)

Speedy the Cat’s Friends – Challenge #11 (punches)

Just For Fun Friday – Color Challenge #19

Sew Many Challenges - #19 Anything Goes

Pile It On! – #27 Holiday Colors (used Thanksgiving/Fall colors)

Paper Works Co. sketch and ODBD

Happy Sunday everyone! We are recovering from a little party we threw for our sons’ 9th and 11th birthdays yesterday. When we throw a birthday party it’s always for the both of them since they’re birthdays are only 2 weeks apart. I posted some yummy goodness at the bottom of my post.

For my card today, I was invited by Peggy of Paper Works Co. to be a guest designer for their sketch this week which was “Round, Round, Round” and here’s what I came up with using the new Bless This Home set from ODBD:

ODBD Lorelie Kim 2 copy

Do you like my medallion? Would you believe me if I told you they were made of tags? Here’s a great way to make a medallion using a tag from the Spellbinders Fancy Tags set:

ODBD 136

Depending how intricate you’d like your medallion to look, cut as many or as little as you’d like. I used 6 for my card:

ODBD 134 copy

This is what 4 tags put together would look like:

ODBD 133 copy

To figure out how to evenly space them out is to just tinker with them and the best way to achieve that is to use Removable Glue Dots:

ODBD 139

I was contacted by Glue Dots to make a particular project for them so I’ll be working on that for the next few weeks…please stay tuned!

I hope you play along with this week’s Paper Works Co. sketch!

Paper: Basic Grey Cappella pad, Stampin’ Up! Basic Brown
Accessories: Spellbinders (Fancy Tags, Classic Circles Small), Bow-Easy, Martha Stewart Deco Shells corner and border punches, diamond rhinestones, Removable Glue Dots

One of my sons wanted a Lakers cake and the other wanted a Sonic Unleashed cake so I decided to make each their own red velvet cupcakes. I was my first time using a piping bag and as you can tell, I need more practice. Oh darn! I’m just going to have to make MORE cupcakes!

Oh, and remember my McMahon Five Designs strawberries card? It made me want to make these for the party as well:

There’s something about Dahlia…

As in the beautiful Dahlia fold, but with a little twist! I started off wanting to create a card with a Dahlia fold flower with a scripture center. When I realized that my Dahlia flower was too small for the scripture I had to rethink the idea. I also didn’t want to toss the 8 folded circle aside as it took me a while just to do them! I started tinkering with the Dahlia pieces and came up with this card using The Living Bread set from ODBD:

ODBD Lorelie Kim 3 copy

I discovered you can make beautiful corners! Just start off by punching 8 circles from two-sided designer paper and follow the Dahlia fold instructions found HERE then…

ODBD 158 copy ODBD 159 copy ODBD 160 copy

I used a Mini Glue Dot in step 2 to keep the two pieces in place. I then added buttons to the centers of the “Dahlia corners” to keep the folds flat and I loved how it turned out!

I’ll have another mini tutorial this week using a Spellbinder Fancy Tag so stay tuned!

Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Stampin’ Up! Ruby Red
Paper: Stampin’ Up (Basic Brown, designer paper), Core’dinations Scarlet cardstock

Fresh strawberries!!

Just about a mile from where we live there is a little stand on a corner that has the freshest and yummiest strawberries I’ve ever had!  The best part is that they are organic, sweet and keeps in the refrigerator for a week.  I plan on buying a case for my sons’ birthday party this weekend to make fruit kabobs…I’ll post a picture next week!

In the meantime, here’s a card using the yummy Strawberries digital stamp from McMahon Five Designs:

M5D Strawberries

I just used my trusty Prismacolor pencils and mineral spirit (aka Gamsol) to color in the image.  I had a scrap piece of brown cardstock that I had punched 3 scalloped circles from and just threaded ribbon through.

I’ve got quite a few things to do before my sons’ birthday party so I will be a busy bee!  Oh, and don’t forget about the M5D Mystery Designer contest…you still have plenty of time!  Read all the details just below this post.  As always, thank you so much for stopping by and leaving such sweet comments!!  They are truly appreciated!

Card Recipe
Digital: McMahon Five Designs Strawberries
Paper: Basic Grey Green at Heart pad, Stampin Up! cardstock (Real Red, Basic Brown, YoYo Yellow)
Accessories:  Zva Creative Circles and Lines white pearls, Spellbinders (Large Octagons, Large Scallop Octagons, Classic Circles Small), Bow-Easy, Prismacolor pencils, yellow organza ribbon, Cuttlebug embossing folders (Polka Dots, Swiss Dots)

I live in Boise, Idaho, with my doggie, Chloe, and my cat, Tuxie. I love all types of crafting but now my favorite is papercrafting. My style is quite eclectic from romantic, shabby chic to cute and simple.

I started making cards while I was away from home Christmas 2007 and wanted to do something special for my friends and family. I made a few cards here and there until I started blogging and saw all the beautiful inspiration in blogland and the rest his history. I now love playing with my paper and am completely hooked.
I love butterflies, lavender (actually, herbs in general), cupcakes, hearts, chocolate, and my garden (not necessarily in that order; it depends on the day), oh, and how could I forget, cookies.

Hello everyone! Welcome to our July Release Blog Hop! We have been having fun playing with the 4 brand new sets from Our Daily Bread designs and I know you will, too!

This is a big holiday weekend with 4th of July festivities and I know many are busy with company and family events, so we're going to keep the hop real simple! There are no secret words to collect, no email to send to in... just a fun blog hop!

Here is what you have to do to be eligible to win one of the prizes:

  • Hop to each blog, leave a comment on each one.
  • Return here to this post and leave a comment here telling us that you completed the hop and left everyone comments.
  • If for any reason you cannot leave a comment, please give us the name(s) of the designers you were unable to leave comments for... and you'll still be qualified for the drawing.

Here's the fun part! There are THREE prizes of WINNER'S CHOICE ONE FREE SET, but they are hidden on three different designer's blogs! You won't know who has the prizes!

The Blog Hop will run from 8am Eastern on Thursday, July1 through 8pm Eastern Friday July 2. At that time the three designers with the prizes will randomly select their winner from their commenters. They will check this post to be sure the person they draw has left their comment here, stating that they have completed the hop.... and then they will give Grace (our DT Coordinator) the name and the winners will be announced on Sat. the 3rd on the ODBD Blog!

If you came here from Debi’s Blog then you’ve come to the right place, but if you’ve stumbled across my blog by chance then please start at the ODBD blog. For my card I used the beautifully designed Our Daily Bread set:

I have some fun news to share! Linnie of WhoopsiDaisy Designs contacted me and ask if I’d like to be a guest designer for her for the next 6 months and I happily accepted! She has super adorable digital stamps so make sure to take a gander and grab some up. They are sold in “sheets” so it’s a great deal!
There’s a monthly challenge that goes on over at the WhoopsiDaisy Challenge Blog and this month you are challenged to use HOT, VIBRANT COLORS…perfect for the summer weather!
For my first card I used Sheet 53 which is already colored, but for this challenge I wanted to use hot pinks and neon green so I edited the colors in Photoshop:
